Diabetology
Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin produced. Insulin is a hormone which is responsible for helping glucose from food get into cells to be used for energy.
The disease is rising at an alarming rate across age groups and in most parts of the world. India is considered the diabetes capital of the world. While diabetes is a chronic illness, healthy lifestyle choices can prevent the onset of the disease and even help to control it. Following the doctor’s advice and taking the right medication along with proper diet and physical activity can help sufferers lead a normal life. Since diabetes is a progressive disease, it is important to monitor blood sugar levels through regular screening. Ask your doctor about changes in medication, if necessary to prevent any complications.

Diabetes currently affects more than 62 million Indians, which is more than 7.1% of the adult population. The average age on onset is 42.5 years.
